Nokia Joins the Avanci Licensing Platform

Avanci announced today that Nokia, a global leader in creating technology to connect the world, has joined its licensing platform. As the twentieth patent owner to participate in the Avanci marketplace, Nokia brings one of the most extensive portfolios of essential 2G, 3G and 4G patents into Avanci’s one-stop solution for IoT manufacturers.

“Our vision has always been to create a one-stop marketplace for IoT manufacturers and wireless patent owners that enables more efficient technology sharing and streamlined innovation,” said Kasim Alfalahi, founder and chief executive officer of Avanci. “With Nokia joining the Avanci platform, we have truly realized that vision as Avanci now offers a license covering a vast majority of the world’s cellular standard essential patents and we are proud to have their trust in our model.”

“In discussions with the automotive industry, they have underscored the need to simplify the licensing process,” said Jenni Lukander, senior vice president and head of Patent Business at Nokia. “With Nokia joining the Avanci platform, they now have more choice in taking a license to cover our portfolio of 2G, 3G and 4G standard essential cellular patents.”

Avanci’s licensing platform has now grown four-fold from five patent owners at its launch to the 20 patent owners that participate today. Avanci looks forward to welcoming further companies to the marketplace that are either seeking to add connectivity to their IoT products or seeking to share their standard-essential wireless patents.

The Avanci Licensing Platform Grows as NTT DOCOMO Joins as Patent Owner

Avanci announced today that leading mobile operator, NTT DOCOMO, has joined the Internet of Things platform. NTT DOCOMO will license its entire global portfolio of 2G, 3G and 4G standard essential patents through Avanci’s one-stop solution. The Avanci licensing platform now includes 19 patent owners and continues to provide a more efficient way for manufacturers to obtain licenses to the wireless technology needed for their new products.

“We are happy to welcome NTT DOCOMO into Avanci, especially since it is at the forefront of driving the evolution of wireless technology and creating the Internet of Things.” said Kasim Alfalahi, founder and chief executive officer of Avanci. “Having one of the largest mobile operators in the world join our licensing platform demonstrates broad industry support of the open and transparent model that Avanci brings to patent owners and IoT product manufacturers alike.”

The Avanci platform simplifies the way companies share technology by licensing intellectual property from many different patent holders in a single transaction. Avanci’s licenses are offered to all competitors in an industry at the same fair, flat rates that will not increase over the term of the license no matter how many patent owners join the platform.
