Nokia Joins the Avanci EV Charger Program
We’re pleased to welcome Nokia as the newest licensor to participate in the Avanci EV Charger program.
With Nokia’s addition, the program now brings together more than 50 licensors and 15 licensees representing 17 brands, reflecting growing industry participation as the market for connected EV charging infrastructure continues to expand.
Nokia is a global leader in cellular innovation with one of the industry’s leading portfolios of standard-essential patents (SEPs) for cellular connectivity. Its participation further expands the program’s licensing offering, continuing to build an increasingly comprehensive licensing solution for manufacturers of connected EV chargers.
As electric vehicle adoption accelerates worldwide, so does the need for reliable, connected charging infrastructure. BloombergNEF projects that more than 23 million passenger EVs will be sold globally this year, while the International Energy Agency reports that public charging infrastructure surpassed 7 million charging points worldwide in 2025. As governments, utilities and charging providers continue investing in connected charging infrastructure, the need for efficient licensing solutions for essential cellular technologies will continue to grow.
The Avanci EV Charger program was created to meet that need by offering manufacturers the efficient option of a single license covering the essential 4G, 3G and 2G cellular patents of more than 50 participating licensors. The program features fair, transparent, published rates that are paid once for the lifetime of each charger, covering products ranging from residential charging units to multi-outlet public charging systems.
“Nokia’s participation demonstrates the continued growth of the Avanci EV Charger program,” said Marianne Frydenlund, Vice President, IoT at Avanci. “Each new licensor increases the value of the program for manufacturers, and the growing participation from both licensors and licensees demonstrates the momentum behind the program.”
The program builds on the experience and success of the Avanci Vehicle platform, applying the same principles of simplicity, efficiency and predictability to the rapidly growing connected EV charging market.
As the market continues to evolve, we expect additional companies to join the program, further strengthening its licensing offering and continuing to simplify licensing for manufacturers around the world.
