Five New Automakers Join Avanci Wi-Fi 6 Vehicles

Avanci Wi-Fi is continuing to build momentum, with five new automotive companies concluding licenses for the Avanci Wi-Fi 6 Vehicles license program.

Ford and General Motors have joined the program, alongside three additional automotive companies whose participation will be announced soon. They join Mercedes-Benz, the program’s inaugural licensee.

Avanci Wi-Fi has also welcomed Sol IP as its newest licensor, further expanding the portfolio of standard essential patents available through the program.

The latest agreements come just six months after the launch of Avanci Wi-Fi, the company’s newest licensing platform, and its first program, Avanci Wi-Fi 6 Vehicles. The program provides automotive manufacturers with a single, vehicle-level license covering essential Wi-Fi 6 patented technologies from participating licensors.

“Signing five new automotive licensees at this early stage is an encouraging indication that the simplicity and efficiency of our approach is resonating with the industry,” said Qudus Olaniran, Senior Vice President and Head of Avanci Wi-Fi. “We’re delighted to welcome Ford and General Motors to the program, as well as Sol IP as our newest licensor. We appreciate the trust and support of all the licensors and licensees participating in the program as we continue to build the platform. We look forward to sharing more news soon.”

Wi-Fi is playing an increasingly important role in modern vehicles, supporting applications ranging from infotainment and over-the-air software updates to other connected services. Avanci Wi-Fi 6 Vehicles is designed to make licensing the essential patents behind that standardized technology simpler and more predictable for both automotive manufacturers and patent owners.
