Luke is an intellectual property attorney with 20 years of experience negotiating collaborative licensing solutions for innovative companies. Luke brings to Avanci a commitment to ensuring that all participants in the company’s platforms efficiently and transparently share the technology they need to fuel their devices and services. Having been an integral part of the team that pioneered the Avanci Vehicle licensing platform, Luke is now exploring other areas where Avanci’s established platform licensing model and expertise can streamline technology development and adoption.
Luke joined Avanci from Ericsson where he led the company’s North American patent licensing business. In this role, he helped develop and license Ericsson’s patent portfolio, analyzing and valuing patent portfolios in multiple technology areas such as wireless connectivity, codecs, data networks, and security, and advocating policy positions to legislative bodies, competition agencies, standard-setting organizations, and other forums. Prior to joining Ericsson, Luke practiced law as an associate and then a principal at the law firm McKool Smith in Dallas, helping to resolve patent disputes between some of the world’s largest technology companies.
Luke frequently speaks on patent licensing, and the importance of licensing patents on terms that are fair and reasonable for all parties, including at conferences hosted by the American Bar Association, the Berkley Center for Law and Technology, Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, the Chalmers University of Technology, the European Commission, George Mason University, the Hoover Institute, the International Telecommunications Union, the Munich IP Dispute Resolution Forum, Southern Methodist University, Stanford Law School, Tokyo University, University College London, and the University of Texas.
Luke received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. He is based in Dallas, Texas, USA.
